'Help Me Park' approached errumm to assist in the redevelopment of their existing back-office 'meet and greet service' management system and the development of a new public facing website to market their business.
Having had a vendor attempt to develop a new back office system previously, Help Me Park asked errumm to operate as an intermediary between their business and their new off-shore third party development house.
Having web software developed by a company abroad is something many organisations investigate, as a way of cutting the cost of development. Building the software can then prove to be a difficult, sometimes impossible, task to get right in budget and on time, due to cultural, language and time differences. This is additionally complicated by many web companies not having expertise in individual business sectors.
We offered consultancy and vendor management services that 'Help Me Park' applied succesfully, assisting their third party vendor from India in understanding the business and developing the software accordingly.
A consultant from errumm looked at the documentation that existed already as part of HMP's day to day business, held meetings with sevral HMP business personnel and documentated their existing system. Discussions were held with the third party vendor to discover how they handled previous projects, what their experience was like with understanding business requirments and where issues usually arose.
In the case of HMP, errumm believed it would be of great value to provide use cases for every major function of their website and back office site to acompany a broader business and functional requirments specification. This could be used on a regular basis as a point of reference for the third party along with wireframe diagrams of all major screens within the system, that were referenced from the use cases.
The documentation that was provided to the third party vendor proved enough to make sure that the systems were provided ahead of schedule and to requirment.
